🚫 Don’t risk shipping your:

• 🛍 things you’ll need right away
  Tip: Use a locked room or car trunk for your “Do Not Pack” items!

As soon as you receive verbal orders, it’s a good idea to begin planning. You don’t need to wait for hard copy orders to start organizing important documents, researching your next duty station, and attending a PCS workshop. The earlier you prepare, the smoother the transition.

🚚 Household Goods (HHG) Move
A government-arranged move where professional movers pack, ship, and deliver your belongings.

💪 Personally Procured Move (PPM / DITY)
You handle the move yourself.
✅ Book in DPS to estimate your reimbursement.
⚠️ If you go over the estimate, you pay the difference.

🛻 Partial DITY + HHG
You move some items (e.g., in your POV), while the rest is shipped via HHG.
📄 Full/empty weight tickets are required.

A CONUS move is within the continental U.S., while OCONUS includes Alaska, Hawaii, and overseas locations. Each has its own rules and entitlements.
📦 For OCONUS, things like vehicle shipment, passport requirements, and medical screenings come into play—so definitely check in with us for guidance.

🧸✨ We’ve got you covered with several programs to ease your transition:

1️⃣ FCC Childcare – PCS
👨‍👩‍👧 Families receive 20 hours per child of Family Child Care (FCC) within 60 days of arrival/departure.
📍Visit the Military & Family Readiness Center (104 E. Simpson St., Bldg. 500) with your PCS orders. You’ll receive a voucher and a handoff to Ms. Vickers, who connects you with a licensed FCC provider.

2️⃣ Air Force Aid Society – Child Care for PCS (CCPCS)
💵 Provides $200 per child (up to $1,000 per family) for PCS/Retirement/Separation moves.
🏫 Childcare may be provided at Child Development Centers, Youth Centers, FCC homes, or licensed civilian providers.

3️⃣ Commercial Travel Reimbursement for Child Care Assistance
🚘 If no childcare is available within 30 days of your DCN (Date Care Needed), you may qualify for a travel reimbursement:

• Up to $500 (CONUS)
• Up to $1,500 (OCONUS)
  💼 Covers commercial transportation for a non-dependent childcare provider (age 18+).

Relocating with school-age children can be overwhelming—but you’re not alone!

📚 The Military & Family Readiness Center partners closely with School Liaison Program Managers (SLPMs) to support your family’s educational needs.

SLPMs can help you:

• Understand local school options (public, private, charter, DoDEA, homeschool support)
• Navigate school enrollment and transfer processes
• Access information on school zones, academic requirements, and extracurriculars
• Advocate for continuity of special education or gifted programs

👩‍🏫 Whether you’re arriving or departing Joint Base Charleston, we’ll connect you with the appropriate School Liaison to ensure a smooth academic transition for your child.

Just use the zip code for your gaining installation. Your Household Goods (HHG) will go into temporary local storage (up to 90 days). Once you have an address, just contact the carrier to arrange final delivery to your new home! 📦📦

Nope 🚫—privately owned vehicles (POVs) are only shipped to OCONUS (Overseas) duty locations.
📍Restrictions may apply, so be sure to check Military INSTALLATIONS or review your official travel orders for country-specific guidance.

Most bases offer Temporary Lodging Facilities (TLFs) for incoming families, but they book fast. It’s smart to reserve as early as possible. We can also provide resources for off-base temporary housing, BAH guidance, and rental checklists.
