Overview

Magellan collaborates with the Department of Defense to administer the Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) program, providing brief, non-medical life counseling services to active duty military members, National Guard, Reserves, and their families. The program includes the Child and Youth Behavioral Counseling Program for young family members.

Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs), holding advanced degrees, offer free counseling on topics like anger management, communication, conflict resolution, and coping with military life challenges such as deployment stress and PCS stress. The counseling is preventive, aiming to deter mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Sessions are confidential, with mandatory reporting only for specific cases like domestic violence or child abuse, and do not affect medical records.

MFLCs are available at both the Air Base and Weapons Station, with no referral needed. Appointments can often be scheduled within a week, and sessions can occur on or off the installation (excluding homes or vehicles). Child and Youth Behavioral MFLCs are available at Child Development Centers, Youth Centers, and public schools in the Charleston area. The program ensures prompt responses to inquiries and scheduling within one business day.
