Four Steps to Prepare

Know Your Zone

Determine whether your home is located in a South Carolina evacuation zone and understand local evacuation routes.

Know where you’ll go, how you’ll communicate, and what you’ll do if evacuation is ordered.

  • Create a Communication Plan
    • Plan how you’ll connect with loved ones if power or cell service is lost. Share emergency contact information ahead of time.
  • Prepare Your Home
    • Secure outdoor items, check storm shutters, trim trees, and know how to safely turn off gas, electricity, and water.
  • Update Your Records
    • Make sure DEERS, your installation, and your command have your current contact information.
    • NFAAS
    • AFPAAS
  • Plan for Special Needs
    • Make arrangements for family members with medical conditions, mobility challenges, or special dietary needs.

Gather supplies before stores become crowded.

  • Build an Emergency Kit
    • Include water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, hygiene items, important documents, and pet supplies.
  • Have a Go-Bag Ready
    • Pack essentials you can quickly grab if you need to evacuate on short notice.
