Military & Family Readiness Grand-Reopening

Military and Family Readiness Grand Reopening

Over 70 leaders from all over the Joint Base Charleston community came out to celebrate the re-opening of the Joint Base Charleston Military Family Readiness Center’s Air Base location. Leaders from all branches were represented as well as some of the highest ranking on-base civilians.

This renovation marked an important moment for the organization as both centers are now fully operational and able to provide the same in person, exemplary service. It is important to note that the center was never not able to provide service, even during the onset of the pandemic. Flight Chief Anna Flowers explains that despite facility challenges, the team was able to deliver “Although one of our centers was being renovated for a little over a year, our virtual presence was in full swing as we provided countless briefings, 1 on 1 appointments, and even TAP classes.” During the Air Base renovation, the Weapons Station location was always an option for patrons as well if they wished to have in-person services.

In terms of the renovation itself, the highlights include

  • Total HVAC replacement
  • New wall built to separate two office spaces
  • New wall built to enclose the HVAC mechanical room
  • New exterior door built for the HVAC mechanical room (now enter from outside vs inside, reducing the noise level in classrooms)
  • Interior lighting upgraded to LED
  • New ceiling tiles
  • New restroom sinks and countertops

Air Base Center Chief Sandra Liotti relishes her group’s participation saying that “It was an excellent team effort, and great to see it finished and turning out so well.”
